What is complex care?

Complex care refers to the support needed by people with serious, ongoing, or multiple health conditions that require a higher level of skill and knowledge from their carer. This might include neurological conditions, physical disabilities, respiratory conditions, or a combination of several health challenges.

Our complex care team includes carers who have received specialist training and have hands-on experience managing conditions such as Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, stroke recovery, spinal cord injuries, and many others.

These carers work closely with the client's medical team — GPs, consultants, district nurses, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists — to ensure that all aspects of care are coordinated and consistent.

What complex care includes

Our complex care plans are comprehensive and tailored to each individual's specific medical and personal needs:

  • Specialist personal care including hoisting, positioning, and pressure area care
  • Medication administration and monitoring
  • PEG feeding, stoma care, and catheter management
  • Respiratory support and monitoring
  • Physiotherapy exercises and mobility support
  • Communication support for those with speech difficulties
  • Pain management and symptom monitoring
  • Coordination with medical professionals and hospital teams
  • Detailed record-keeping and reporting
  • 24/7 on-call clinical support

For clients who require continuous two-person care, or daytime and night-time carers, we can arrange teams of carers who work together to provide seamless round-the-clock support.

Cost of complex live-in care

Complex care typically falls under our Specialist plan at £1,450 per week, or our Advanced plan at £2,900 per week for those requiring two full-time carers.

Many people with complex care needs are eligible for NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) funding, which can cover the full cost of their care. This is assessed by the local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and is based on the nature and intensity of care needs, not on the person's financial situation.

We have extensive experience supporting families through the CHC assessment process and can provide the documentation and evidence needed to support an application.
